Because my life is a performance art work in progress, and dignity is overrated. Local to DC? Come out and join in the shenanigans!
The perfect storm of high femme and lowbrow, I’m the velvet-voiced vamp with the dangerous curves who’s hell on heels. As Diva Darling, I perform in the DC-Baltimore variety scene with neo-burlesque acts and cabaret vocals.
I want to tell you all the stuff that I love in our Midsummer’s Burlesque Dream at Capital Fringe 2016 so that you will understand why you really NEED to come out and play with us, but since this *is* a Midsummer burlesque after all, let me just tease you with some of the reasons why you’ll come out of our show feeling upbeat and happy and energized and generally feeling great about life!
Come see the debut of the show that’s lived in my head for almost two years, darlings! In addition to producing, I will be playing Therese/Tiresias.
Therese, a white feminist, leads a women’s uprising against injustice and childbirth after becoming Tiresias. Her husband has babies – 40,049 of them. Sex, satire, and Social Media sizzle with burlesque and variety in this surrealist comedy of gender-bending and gerrymandering.
This world premiere is a modern-day adaptation of the very first surrealist play, Les Mamelles de Tiresias by Apollinaire, set in a city oddly like Washington DC. It mashes up scripted story with burlesque, dance, and variety acts in 90 minutes of wild absurdity.
